About Chip Seal — FAQs
What is chip seal? The county's primary road resurfacing method — an asphalt oil coat followed by crushed stone aggregate, then roller-compacted. Lasts 5–7 years and is more cost-effective than hot mix asphalt.
Why use chip seal instead of hot mix? It costs significantly less, requires lighter equipment, and can be applied in more weather conditions — including during minor drought periods using water restrictions workarounds.
