How to Submit a Request

Under the Texas Public Information Act, you have the right to request access to government records. Requests must be submitted in writing.

What You Should Know

• Requests must be in writing — verbal requests are not accepted
• The Act does not require the county to create new information, perform legal research, or answer questions
• Some information may be exempt from disclosure under Texas law
• If the county seeks an Attorney General ruling on exemptions, you will be notified within 10 business days
• Costs may apply per Texas Attorney General rules (copying, labor, overhead)
